BE THE MEDIA currently has open positions
for interns as well as full-time and part-time positions.
We have offices in northern California and New
York (Long Island).
Many positions (especially sales, blogging, and
citizen journalists) can be done remotely.

Sales: Full and part-time, remote or local. Openings in product and service
sales, advertising sales, and affiliate sales.

Direct
and commissioned sales reps: Must have experience in selling/representing
publishers of non-fiction books (categorized as
self-help/media/business/marketing/Internet) to distributors, resellers,
libraries, independent bookstores, and academia (high school, college,
university, graduate and trade). Academic reps must have experience/connections
in departments of Career Services, Business, Communications, Journalism,
Broadcasting, English, Media (including classes on Media Literacy, Media
Production, and Media Education).
Bloggers/Writers/Citizen
Journalists/Reporters/Photo-videographers: Experience and interest in
blogging, ezine
writing, and print, photo and video journalism in the following media segments: Independent Music, Film, Publishing,
Mobile, Broadband, Citizen Journalism, Blogging, Radio (terrestrial, Internet,
satellite, HD), Internet, Web 2.0 (including but not limited to Social Networks,
Twitter, RSS, videoblogs, podcasts, wikis, etc), Licensing, Syndication,
Animation and Cartooning, Community Newspapers, Low Power FM, Public Access,
Media Policy, Open Source.
Graphic
Designer: To create original web and print-ready brand and campaign
identities, graphical elements and various things you can dream up for
www.BeTheMedia.com and
www.BeTheMedia.org. Design, develop, and
revise new and existing print materials. Create press-ready design files for
books, PDFs, eBooks, fliers, brochures, newsletters, direct mail, letters, etc.
Requirements: Proficient in CSS, HTML/XML, and expert in Adobe InDesign,
Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Web
Designer: To work with technology and graphics design team to build
out, enhance, and maintain www.BeTheMedia.com and
www.BeTheMedia.org.
Requirements: Must be proficient in CSS
and HTML/XML, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks,
Dreamweaver.
Technology:
Web design and technology infrastructure development. Proficient in Drupal
integration, theming, deployment. Experience in migrating from SixApart's
TypePad to Drupal preferred. Experience in MySQL database development,
deployment, and maintenance. Must be able to manage projects from idea through
deployment, enforcement of deadlines. Provide technical consultation to staff;
serve as liaison with vendors; make recommendations to staff for software and
equipment upgrades or new purchases.

REQUIREMENTS:
College degree required. Applicants must have 'can-do' attitude, strong work
ethic, be motivated, imaginative, dedicated, and have a great sense of humor.
Ability to rapidly execute quality work under
tight deadlines with minimal oversight.
Prefer interest in media justice work,
community activism, and public policy.
